Understanding your three stories

Pastor Jeremy Helmuth

The THREE STORIES in your BIG STORY

Every one of us has a story to tell. If you are a Christian, you have three main stories within your ultimate story that you should be able to share with others. Do you tell others the story of how you were saved by grace, how you overcame a difficult time in your life, and how God is transforming you?

SAVED by GRACE

  • B.C. – Before Christ
  • Surrender
  • A.D. – After Christ

TRIUMPH over TRAGEDY

  • You face a difficult trial.
  • You’re shaped by the trial, but not defined by it.
  • You display God’s glory in your life.

TRANSFORMATION

  • I am not who I was yesterday.
  • I die to self today, and live for Christ forever.

Discussion Questions

SAVED by GRACE

1. Where were you spiritually before receiving Christ, and how did that affect you—your feelings, attitudes, actions, and relationships?

2. What caused you to consider God as a solution to your needs?

3. What realization did you come to that finally motivated you to receive Christ? Specifically, how did you receive Christ?

4. How did your life begin to change after you trusted Christ?

5. What benefits have you experienced since becoming a Christian?

TRIUMPH over TRAGEDY

6. Can you point to a major trial in your life?

7. How long did your trial last? Did it all happen in a moment, or has it been a long struggle?

8. How does a Christian allow the trial to shape them, but not define who they will become?

9. Have you figured out how to bring hope into other people’s life in light of your ability to patiently and gracefully endure through a trial?

TRANSFORMATION

10. Do you know Jesus better than you did when you first started following Him? Do you spend time reading His words to you? Do you silence yourself to listen to His still small voice?

11. When is the last time you have been convicted to change an area of your life you knew was holding you back? How did you change?

12. Does your heart burn with passion to please God?
