Christmas Through The Eyes of Herod

Pastor Clinton Faupel

Jeremiah 2:13 (NIV)

13 “My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me,
the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

Matthew 2:1-3  (NIV)

1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,
during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east
came to Jerusalem

2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born
king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and
have come to worship him.”

3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed,
and all Jerusalem with him.

The glimpse we see of Herod in the Gospels is ultimately about self-protection and fear - rooted in pride

Sometimes we’re too close to the forest to see the trees

To Herod, Jesus was a threat - is Jesus a threat to you?

Paranoia vs Peace

Chaos vs Character

Subversion vs Submission
